Point Lobos is a state natural reserve just south of Carmel, often described as the crown jewel of California's state parks. Easy trails wind past granite coves, cypress groves, and tide pools, with sea otters, harbor seals, and seabirds close to shore.
Because it is a reserve, the rules protect the wildlife first. Stay on marked trails and check current regulations before you go.
Good to know
- Arrive early. Parking inside the reserve is limited and fills quickly.
- Dogs are not permitted in the reserve.
- Bring binoculars for otters and seals in the coves.
